Conditions in the Carnauba Palm’s native area are so severe that only the hardiest of trees can survive.  Alternating hot and cold seasons and the attacks of voracious insect hordes combine to kill almost every form of vegetation.  The Carnauba Palm survives because its leaves are protected by a virtually impenetrable layer of the hardest and most durable vegetable wax known to man. Each Plant bears some hundred leaves; from each of them about 7kg wax are extracted. 

The harvesting of Carnauba wax is a carefully controlled operation.  Only so many palm fronds may be taken from each tree during the harvest season to insure preservation of the Palm forest.  The Brazilian government oversees the Carnauba wax industry and regulates export of the raw product.  Although other countries have attempted to cultivate Carnauba Palms outside Brazil, these experiments have not been successful.  Brazil continues to control the world’s supply of Carnauba wax.
